In his entry on the Name Voyager site,
ME says he didn't particularly notice trends linked to the infamy of celebs, though he did not discount the possibility. I, too, did not find any trends related to celebrities--the precipitous decline of Bruno actually slowed somewhat in the 30s, in spite of Bruno Hauptmann. However, there was an interesting correlation with non-human pop culture icons. Kermit drops completely off the map in the 70s, when The Muppet Show debuted. Bambi actually started to register on the top 1000 baby names in the 40s, after Disney released
Bambi in 1942.
