Penguin Perspectives...

Here, you can watch a Little Blue Penguin nesting. Unfortunately, a great many of the other penguin webcams are either off for the night or down entirely. What has this internet come to when, with all of the resources of the planet, we cannot have 24-hour live voyeuristic access to all penguin species?

Abandoned hygene products...

I walked into my office this morning and found a bottle of Vagisil deoderant powder on my desk. I asked around. No one seems to know where it came from.

Drug Ads...

The FDA finally looking into drug ads, specifically whether the side effects are given enough consideration.
Ever really listened to those hushed lists of side effects? Ambien, marketed for insomnia, "may cause drowsiness." And here I was thinking I should take a non-drowsy insomnia medication.

The Candidates

Thanks to TiVo, I watched the democratic debate last night and managed to to eliminate three more candidates, bringing my field down to 4. For a pocket-book rundown of the democratic candidates (any of whom are less scary than Bush), check out Slate's Campaign 2004 section.

About the flags on your car

Just a note to everyone with American flags on their cars: these colors may not run, but they do fade. If you feel the need to display your patriotism on your cars, please keep them in good repair. Flags flown from your windows get frayed, and dye bleaches out of bumper stickers, window signs, and yellow ribbons. Consider maintaining the outward show of your national pride.

As promised...

Here it is. The Juice Box Brassiere.
If you have time, it is always amusing to search the Patent office database.

Titles

Hey! I have titles. Now, all three of you who know about PP can tell when an entry starts. Coming tomorrow: the juice box brassiere...
Returned from the weekly foray to the laudromat. How do people accumulate 7 loads of laundry before deciding that it might be time to do a wash?
Welcome to Penguin Perspectives! Oh, the pressure of my first entry, especially since nothing much is happening today to comment on.

I'm split on the Do Not Call List. On one hand, I would rather telemarketers not call me. On the other hand, we as human beings are not morally obligated to pick up the phone just because it rings. If the phone rings during dinner, let the machine get it. The whole situation reminds me a bit of when I was in high school and a friend of mine and I made a habit of sitting for an extra few seconds after the bell rang, just to prove we were not rats in a maze, conditioned to move whenever the bell signaled the end of our lunch period. People assume that if the phone rings, you must answer. If it is someone you know, they'll either leave a message or call back.
